New addiction

Did I mention that I got an invite to Ravelry? (Finally!) I've been addicted to the site since I got my email, sneaking a few minutes here, a few hours there to build up my profile. I've posted a few pics and have started listing my stash. It's actually really great cos I have these few yarns that I bought cos I love but haven't found the right pattern for and Ravelry links to all the projects that other people have done with that yarn. Tres cool. The project, now, is to gather my stash and organise it so that the next time I feel like picking up a project, I can just sift through my Ravelry page and find the perfect fit!

At the moment I'm putting off blocking and completing one sweater, putting off lining a bag and knitting a scarf just as the weather gets warmer. Oh--and knitting a project for a friend's birthday. A little addicted, yea.

Procrastination Station

I'm supposed to be writing a grant proposal outline (or something) so of course I thought I'd add a post to this highly neglected blog...

I have been working at the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER) since January as an intern and thusly have not had the time to post anything about my oh-so-exciting life. Because AIER is up in Great Barrington, MA, I've been spending most of my week sleeping in VT and going through Internet withdrawal. That is part of the reason that Hot Chicas has not been updated--neither the site nor the blog. But I have finished with my work at AIER (I was an intern for Jan and Feb and went back to fill in as a paid employee for the last two weeks) and am back in Bestchestah until I find a place to live! Woot woot!

But the best part of being home? I have a job! I have a real, proper, adult-style job! I'll be working as an Information Analyst at John S Herold. According to their website, they are an "independent research firm that specializes in the analysis of companies, transactions, and trends in the global energy industry". It seems like a very cool place to work and everyone I met seemed like my kind of people so I'm hoping that it all works out. Obv I won't be blogging about my workplace, but I'm assuming with more money will come more adventures so don't you worry my little chicks, you'll still have blogs to read!

And finally, I hope to post a picture my brand spankin' new Celtic Tote when I finish it. It's my first attempt at cables, but I think it looks pretty darned good. I just have to find the time to sew up the last two sides and felt it (and let it dry) before I can take a picture and show it off. All I need now is a house full of cats...

Step One! (We can have lots of fun)

Spice Girls? Mice girls....Word on the street is that New Kids on the Block are reuniting (and oh does it feel so good)! While not lawyering, Lisa scans the newswire for what's going on in this crazy world of ours and found this juicy little tidbit. This is possibly the most exciting news of the millennium! Ok, maybe of the month, but still! AND Jon's supposedly signed on...so whether he'll just be a shadow singing from behind a curtain or in full anxiety mode is yet to be seen.

Now we just have to hope this isn't a hoax (I checked the calendar to make sure it wasn't April when I got the text from Lisa) and that tickets are reasonably priced--say, $5?

Oh Steve....

I have two payments left on my car and I'm not sure if I can make it. This is the most troublesome car that I've ever had. Not that I'd had too many, but still...it makes me dream of the Tuna days. Oh how I miss Tuna John!

A little backstory: Tuna John (Tuna for short, the John came when he decided to drive better whilst listening to John Denver) was my Justy. Well, my mother's, but I got use when she got a new car and no one wanted to drive up to Plattsburgh to pick me up on school breaks. He only had three cylinders, but was awesome and never failed me and could haul like nobody's business. He got the name Tuna cos he was basically a tuna can--small, made of tin, etc. But he was bright teal and easy to find in a parking lot or under 5 feet of snow drift (I have photos). Eventually I needed something a little stronger so I bought Saturn #1 from a friend who was otherwise going to give it to charity. That Saturn was ok until it needed a new clutch--I bought it was 200,000 and ran it another 20,000 before this happened. Clutch gone, I had to frantically find a new car so that I could still get to work and be belittled by my boss.

Enter Steve. Or Saturn #2. He started out sweet and nice, but turned into my worst nightmare soon after the honeymoon. Oh Steve, how does thee annoy me? Let me count the ways:

1. Leaking sunroof leading to mould.
2. Busted steering column which meant 45 minutes of unlocking my wheel whilst starting the car.
3. Clutch failure at 80,000.
5. Reeeeally difficult to tow as there's no hook in the front (which lead to multiple losses of the mud guard).
6. Busted sunroof on Thanksgiving led to $800 worth of motor repair (was it made of gold?!)
7. Crap handling.
8. Dead battery more times than any of my other cars combined.
9. I could go on,
10. but he does have leather seats.

Basically after this last dead battery (yesterday), I'm soooo ready for a new car. Watching Top Gear doesn't help cos now I want a Mercedes S class or some other German-engineered car that looks swish and goes fast. Not really in keeping with the librarian's salary, but a girl can dream! Sorry, I'm just really aggravated after this last car failure and cannot wait until April when I can have a "Yay! My car's paid off!" party, to which you'll all be invited...
